The Caithness and North Sutherland Fund was established by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd to distribute funding to community organisations for projects that will increase the attractiveness of Caithness and North Sutherland as a place to live, work and invest. There is a particular emphasis on achieving environmental, social, cultural and infrastructure improvements.
The NDA will provide £4 million to the fund – £1m at the start of construction in 2011 and £300,000 in 2014 and each year until 2023.
You can apply if you are a:
• Voluntary or community organisation
• School parent council
• Community council
• Community development group
Some examples of what can be funded:
• Equipment hire
• Feasibility studies
• Sessional workers
• Transport costs
• Venue hire
• Building refurbishment, landscaping or property projects (including play parks)
You can apply to submit an enquiry form and send it to the fund co-ordinator. Once this has been assessed against the criteria an application number will be allocated and you can go online to complete a full application.
