There is a nationally recognised certificate for those who pass the multiple choice exam which is based on 30 questions with pass mark 27/45 (the first 15 questions are worth 2points each)
Persons who hold the certificate are allowed to work with food unsupervised and with 6 other persons who do not have a certificate.
The course covers the following 8 topics:
1. An introduction to food hygiene
2. Bacteria and their characteristics
3. The incidence of food poisoning and its prevention
4. Personal hygiene
5. The working environment (wall, floor, surface finishings, equipment, waste disposal, lighting etc)
6. Cleaning practices
7. Pests and their control
8. Food legislation
