All Change for Data Protection?
For the voluntary sector, it can be a struggle getting to grips with the many myths that surround data protection and many questions can feel very hard to answer: Can you share personal information with other organisations? How long should you keep your records? Is email secure? Do you need consent? Do you need to tell people what you are doing with their information? Even if you are getting a handle on all of this, are you aware that there’s a new data protection regime coming down the line next year? How prepared are you for the changes that are to come? This half-day interactive session seeks to provide good practical answers to many of the questions that we struggle with and seeks to help you understand what you need to be doing to make sure you comply with the current legislation. The session also introduces the new General Data Protection Regulation which comes into force on 25 May 2018, highlighting the changes you need to consider and providing a framework to help you in your preparation for the new regime. The session will be delivered by Maureen Falconer, who is the Regional Manager for the Information Commissioner’s Office in Scotland that regulates the Data Protection Act 1998 and will also regulate the new regime. Maureen has been with the ICO for ten years and has worked with organisations across all sectors to raise awareness of their data protection responsibilities. Maureen’s extensive knowledge and experience will benefit your organisation by increasing your confidence in handling personal information and helping you to comply with the current regime, as well as providing a framework to help you prepare for the new regime.
